In April 2016 we opened our first dive centre in Sri Lanka – brand new, and indeed our first time running a centre after taking all the instructor qualifications in the UK and doing independent teaching. This was to be quite a challenge! This involved purchasing our equipment in the UK, shipping to Sri Lanka, transporting to Trincomalee, finding a location, building work, getting three phase electricity, purchasing a boat, advertising both locally and online, finding employees and all the other things that you do when you run a business – well, not only did we manage the first season, it was in fact a great success!
We have had fantastic reviews on TripAdvisor, and we are so pleased to be able to offer our guests the really high spec brand new equipment they want, very high safety standards, and the time and patience, which for new divers in particular, is so important. The other thing we learnt is to be flexible with customer needs, offering private groups where requested, and flexibility when possible, with timings. We have also found providing quick responses to customer emails is greatly valued, along with other information that helps people plan their trips.
We have enjoyed this season a lot and all the hard work! We have met some fantastic people from all over the world – here are just some of the countries represented: Australia, South Africa, China, Singapore, Japan, India, Pakistan, UAE, Sweden, United Kingdom, Hungary, Russia, Poland, Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, Netherlands and Belgium.
In what other kind of job would you have the opportunity to meet such a wonderful varied group of people, all sharing a common interest in the underwater world, and helping develop their passion in the marine environment?!
Thank you to you all for visiting us at Taprobane Divers, and we hope to see you again in future!
